This Year I’m Stealing One Habit From A Bestselling Author

Welcome to Marginal Gains

Hello, Marginal Gains community!

We're excited to have you with us once again as we explore ways to make meaningful changes in our lives.

In this issue, I’m sharing one habit I’m incorporating into my life this year.

This Year I’m Stealing One Habit From A Bestselling Author

In his book Storyworthy, Matthew talks about his homework for life habit.

At the end of each day, he asks himself:

"What was the storyworthy moment of the day?"

He then answers this with 1-2 sentences which he saves in an Excel spreadsheet.

It doesn't seem like much.

But Matthew shows that doing this everyday helps in 3 ways:

1. You start to see the wonder in each day.

Your brain is a noticing machine.

When you give yourself the goal of looking for storyworthy moments, you'll start to notice more in your day.

You'll start to see wonder in the normal.

2. You become conscious of not wasting your time and as a result become more present.

Time becomes precious.

Instead of wasting time scrolling away on social media, you'll become more aware and more intentional with how you spend your time.

As a result you'll become more focused on what's important to you.

3. You start to see the small daily impact you make in life.

As you look back on your stories, you'll be able to see how you impact others lives.

You'll see how the small actions you take daily help others in your life. You'll see all the small wins. When you're feeling low, it will help to look back on these and see that you matter.

This year I'm planning to do homework for life daily as a form of journaling.

Hopefully at the end of the year I'll be able to look back on 365 Storyworthy moments, as Matthew calls them.

Have you ever tried something similar?

What are your thoughts on story for life?
