This week we learnt about the Batman effect, how to reclaim control of your mornings with the phone charger challenge and came across an awesome website that uses AI to let you remove unwanted things (or people) from your photos.

The Phone Charger Challenge

Do you ever feel like your mornings are more reactive than proactive. Feel like your mornings are a mad rush to get out of the door and get to work. The phone charger challenge will help you regain control of your mornings, reduce your stress and give you a sense of calm. The basic idea is that by placing your phone on charge away from your bed and being intentional with what you’re going to do when the alarm goes off, you’re able to be more proactive with your morning. Whether that’s getting a morning workout in or catching up on your reading, now you can start your day with a strong foundation. I’ve tried this for a few days and definitely feel it’s made a difference on my mornings. I’m able to start the morning on my terms and get myself into a great position to have a productive day.

The Creativity Faucet

Coming up with ideas is hard. We expect great ideas to just arrive fully formed into our heads, but in reality all we get are bad ideas which dishearten us and put us off trying. Julian Shapiro shares a great mental model to help develop ideas and become more creative. Simply put, it involves becoming comfortable with bad ideas and getting them out of your system. Once they’re cleared then strong ideas will start to flow. Julian describes it as follows;

Visualise your creativity as a backed-up pipe of water. The first mile is packed with wastewater. This wastewater must be emptied before clear water arrives.

It really helps to reframe creativity and give me more confidence in coming up with ideas.

The Top Three AI image Generators Compared Side-by-Side Reveal Interesting Results

There's been a few AI image generators surfacing recently. One Twitter user wanted to see the results they got when providing the same prompts to the top 3. The results were quite different from each one and it was possible to identify certain themes and differences between each one, almost like they had different personalities and hence different interpretations of the prompt. Check the full article here for a more in depth look.

The Batman Effect

Psychological studies have shown using alter egos or thinking of yourself as a separate entity can lead to improved confidence, better performance and more determination. The principle involved is called Self- distancing. This involves viewing the situation from afar or referring to yourself in the third person. Research has shown this technique led to lower anxiety, more confidence and a better performance from the participants.
