3 Ways Nudges Can Help You Achieve Your Goals

Welcome to Marginal Gains

Sorry for the late issue this week.

It's been a busy week and an even busier weekend.

But better late than never!

Now let's get on with this week's issue:

Did you know that just by switching one word flu vaccination uptake was increased by 11% across 1 million people?

Crazy, right?

It's all thanks to nudges.

Nudges are small changes that use psychological principles to help nudge your behaviour in a better direction.

It's a concept that has been used by behavioural economics to help improve public health for years.

But it's something that you can use to improve your personal life.

For example, keeping a water bottle on your desk is a small nudge to help you drink more water.

Here's 3 ways to apply nudge to your life:

1. Use incentives

Use small rewards to help encourage better choices.

If you want to eat healthier foods, try giving yourself 5 points every time you eat something healthy.

At the end of the week treat yourself to a reward if you meet your minimum points goal.

2. Make good choices easier

Make healthier food easier to access and make sugary snacks harder.

A simple way to do this is by keeping a fruit bowl out in the kitchen and hiding your snacks at the back of cupboards.

3. Make desired actions easier to do

Prepare healthy foods and snacks in advance so it's easier for you when you're hungry.

Try using the ways above to create nudges in your life and see how small changes all add up.
